Crazed Cat Killer: Robert Farmer

25-year-old Robert Farmer has admitted to murdering 16 cats over a two-month period in 2015, many of whom were the much-loved pets of locals in the San Jose suburb of Cambrian Park.

He is alleged to have also mutilated, abused and tortured at least five other cats.

Mr Farmer’s sadistic reign of horror only came to an end on October 8, 2015 when he was arrested in his car, inside which lay the body of a dead orange tabby cat along with a number of other cat collars.

The heartless killer will finally be sentenced sometime later this year after Santa Clara County Superior Court judge, Sharon A Chatman, asked for further information from a psychologist and animal control officer to be provided by April so she can decide on whether or not Mr Farmer should register as a sex offender for his crimes.

Mr Farmer had already plead guilty last year to 21 counts of felony animal cruelty and one misdemeanor battery and being under the influence. DNA tests linked Farmer to all 21 cats that were killed or injured.

Some local residents are calling for Mr Farmer to be sentenced to life imprisonment, with a Facebook group, Justice For Our Catz, set up by some of the owners of the pets murdered calling for harsher punishments against people who harm and abuse animals.

Farmer has been in police custody ever since his arrest in 2015. Following his arrest, San Jose detectives discovered CCTV footage showing Mr Farmer luring a neighbourhood cat named Go-Go before picking it up and running away with it.

‘Farmer just took our sense of safety because he took it from our front yard,” Go-Go’s owner Miriam Petrova told NBC in 2016.

“We never found Go-Go’s body.”

Only four bodies of Mr Farmer’s suspected feline victims have ever been recovered.
