TABLOID HYPOCRITE! A Current Affair reporter who ‘chased paedophiles’ on tv arrested for child porn

He was the “star” tabloid reporter who appeared regularly on television screens and was known to audiences for having “doggedly pursued child sex offenders“. But A Current Affair reporter, Ben McCormack, now finds himself right alongside the perps he once chased with camera in tow having been arrested over child abuse material.

The longtime Channel Nine “talent” was arrested by NSW Police Sex Crime detectives at his inner-city Sydney home on Wednesday, April 6 but was not charged until the following day when police conducted raids at the headquarters of the television network in Willoughby.

Mr McCormack was charged by police at Redfern police station in the afternoon of Thursday, April 6.

Staff at the Channel Nine building were asked to leave by police as a search was conducted. Allegedly at least one computer has been seized for evidence.

Mr McCormack’s lawyer, Sam Macedone, says he is still not aware of the exact nature of the charges.

“Yes he has been arrested, yes he is with the police, but no – at this stage I do not know what the allegations are,” he told the Daily Telegraph.

Arrested over child abuse material: ACA reporter Ben McCormack

Channel Nine has released a statement saying that it was cooperating fully with police.

“I can confirm that officers from the New South Wales police have been at TCN this morning investigating matters relating to a staff member at A Current Affair,” Nine’s Director of News and Current Affairs Darren Wick said in an email to staff.

“It’s a personal matter that does not relate to the program or Nine.

“We are co-operating with the police. However, we are not in a position to comment any further as this is an ongoing investigation.”

Mr McCormack is a veteran of the downmarket tabloid ACA where in between promoting miracle diets, shonky retail advice and soft B-grade celebrity interviews, he has spent time unmasking child sex offenders such as Hey Dad! star Robert Hughes.

Channel Nine has since announced that Mr McCormack is suspended from his duties at the network.
